About Mercury Fire Protection
Who is Mercury Fire Protection?
We’re a local, family-owned fire safety business (003 Fire Protection Pty Ltd t/a Mercury Fire Protection) based at Moore Park Beach near Bundaberg, with qualified fire technicians and licensed electricians serving the Bundaberg, Wide Bay, Burnett and Capricorn regions.
What areas do you service?
We service Bundaberg, Hervey Bay, Maryborough, Childers and the Burnett, Gladstone, and Rockhampton and the Capricorn Coast — plus the towns in between. Call us to confirm your location.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. We hold QBCC Licence 15120680 and Qld Electrical Contractor Licence 85774, ABN 73 629 979 764, and carry the appropriate insurances.
Do you work on both homes and businesses?
Yes — we install interconnected smoke alarms for homes and rental properties, and provide complete fire protection for commercial, industrial, rural, accommodation and healthcare clients.
Compliance & Australian Standards
Do I legally have to maintain fire equipment?
Yes. If you own, manage or occupy a building in Queensland you have a legal obligation to ensure people can be kept safe in a fire or other emergency, which includes maintaining fire safety installations to the relevant standards.
Which standards do you work to?
We maintain assets to AS1851 (fire equipment), AS1670 and AS1668 (detection and ventilation), AS2293.2 (emergency and exit lighting), AS/NZS 3760 (test & tag) and the National Construction Code.
Will I get records for my logbook?
Always. Every inspection is documented with detailed reports, asset registers and test results so your logbook stays current and audit-ready.
Can you take over from our current fire provider?
Yes. We’ll review your existing equipment and records, flag anything overdue or non-compliant, and place you on a documented maintenance schedule.
Smoke Alarms (Queensland Law)
What smoke alarms are required in Queensland?
Photoelectric, interconnected smoke alarms are required in all bedrooms, in hallways connecting bedrooms to the rest of the home, and on every storey. Interconnection means when one alarm sounds, they all sound.
Do rental properties need interconnected alarms?
Yes — since 1 January 2022 landlords must have compliant interconnected smoke alarms installed in residential rental properties.
Hardwired or lithium battery alarms — which is better?
Both are compliant. We install 230V hardwired interconnected alarms or 10-year lithium WiFi alarms depending on your property. Our licensed electricians can advise the best option.
Property Managers & Real Estate
Do property managers need a fire compliance program for rental portfolios?
Yes — managing smoke alarm compliance property by property does not scale. Mercury Fire Protection offers portfolio agreements for property managers and real estate agencies across Bundaberg, Hervey Bay, Maryborough and the Wide Bay: scheduled annual testing, between-tenancy checks, automatic reminders and owner-ready records after every visit.
Who is responsible for smoke alarms in a Queensland rental — the landlord or property manager?
The landlord is legally responsible for installing and maintaining compliant interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms. Property managers typically coordinate access, schedule testing and maintain compliance records on the owner's behalf. Mercury Fire Protection works directly with agencies to manage entire rent rolls.
Can Mercury Fire Protection manage smoke alarms across my whole rental portfolio?
Yes. You provide the property list; we bulk-schedule by suburb, coordinate tenant access, test and maintain alarms annually, attend between tenancies when needed, and provide compliance records for every address. One local provider for Bundaberg, Hervey Bay, Maryborough, Childers, the Burnett, Gladstone and Rockhampton.
What fire compliance is needed at tenancy changeover?
Best practice at every vacancy: test smoke alarms, replace expired units, check fire extinguishers and confirm the property meets Queensland rental requirements before the next lease. Mercury Fire Protection includes between-tenancy compliance checks in portfolio agreements.
Do you offer bulk pricing for real estate agencies?
Yes. Portfolio pricing depends on property count, suburbs and services required. Call (07) 4159 8105 or use our contact form — select Property manager / Real estate agency — and we will quote a scheduled compliance program for your rent roll.
